11 Healthy Habits to Practice Daily As Homemakers

Date
Feb, 27, 2023

Creating healthy habits as a homemaker is a MUST. You must implement healthy habits in your daily life to function properly. Healthy habits will help you remain organized and consistent in your daily duties as a Homemaker.

It often takes time to figure out precisely what habits will benefit you. I mean, it did for me! It took trial and error to find that sweet spot in life where it brings me ultimate joy!

In today’s blog post, I wanted to share a few ideas or tips to encourage you to cultivate healthy habits in your daily life as a Homemaker. These are not the type of habits about getting ready for the day, cleaning, cooking, etc.; I think we’ve all heard and read enough of that. Instead, these are habits that are more focused on you. On your physical and mental health because you matter!

Being a homemaker in itself is a very selfless job that often is overlooked even by our own husbands and/or children. While being a Homemaker for many is a dream, you are still an individual with needs, desires, dreams, and goals! In order to meet these needs, you need to acquire healthy habits!

11 Healthy Habits to Practice Daily For Homemakers

Read Atomic Habits

I RAVE about this book in almost every single blog post related to creating healthy habits. If you need help sticking to daily habits, this book is for YOU. For one, it is one of the easiest and most digestible books to read. It’s straightforward and contains information that will help you create habits that help you no matter your lifestyle. Scientific research and psychology information in this book helps you gain insight into why, when, and how to form habits.

Allowing Your Husband To Help

As Homemakers, you can often feel guilty for staying at home. You usually get into the mindset that since you’re not bringing in a paycheck, you can’t ask for help, which is INSANE! But every single Homemaker has had this type of thinking. I think, for one, many believe that Homemakers sit and binge-watch shows and do nothing. But we all know that is very far from the truth. Keeping up with the home is a full-time job in itself. While it doesn’t bring an income, it brings structure, joy, simple living, and hard work.

So my point here is that it’s okay for your husband to help you. It doesn’t mean you’re a horrible Homemaker. We need help, and that’s OKAY! If he offers to clean, watch the kids, do laundry, etc., allow him to help you. Husbands love helping and being your “hero,” per se. He won’t think less of you because he helped you load the laundry or dishwasher.

Workout

Remember to continue taking care of your physical health. You don’t need to work out to be skinny or have the dream body but working out is overall great for your physical and mental health! It’s also a great way to increase your energy levels, reduce the risk of heart disease, and strengthen your bones and muscles, which is essential!

In this blog post, I share how to start your fitness journey!

A Healthy Habit for Your Mental Health: Relax

There is a time for everything under the sun, and that includes relaxing! This can also be another guilt-inducing thing to do as a Homemaker. But it’s needed and well deserved! After a long day of completing your tasks and fixing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a break is necessary.

Sitting back and relaxing once your priorities are finished will help you avoid feeling burnt out. You want to avoid burning out because it is difficult to bounce back from. It can also cause you to go into a negative spiral and start harboring emotions of resentment, nagging, comparison, depression, and overall never-ending fatigue.

Do One Thing That Fulfills You

Do one thing in your daily life that fulfills YOU. This can be setting aside time to read a book, laying outside in your hammock, going for a walk alone, going to a coffee shop alone, knitting, crocheting, or anything that sparks joy. When you are fulfilled and do things that spark joy in your life, you will quit seeking that fulfillment from others, such as your spouse and children.

At the end of the day, you are an individual who has personal interests that may or may not involve your husband and/or children.

Healthy Habits for Productivity: Plan Your Days Out

You can do this the night before or in the morning while sipping your coffee or tea. Planning out your days is vital. It gives your day a purpose. Instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off, you can give your day some direction. I always recommend starting with 3 Top Priorities, a simple to-do list, and a small section to express gratitude.

Invest Time in Your Hobbies

Investing time in your hobbies can also be correlated with doing one thing that fulfills you. Investing this time is a healthy habit to instill in your life because it can give you a sense of purpose.

For example, my current hobby is gardening, and every year I get way more into it, and it has given me a bigger purpose than just cleaning, organizing, and maintaining my home. I feel delighted to bring the fruits of my labor into my home for everyone to enjoy! A garden requires a lot of time investment, but it’s a hobby that fulfills me.

That is something I want you to find as well, whether that is writing novels, blog posts, gardening, building, or creating something with your hands, anything really! Create a hobby and invest time in it.

Go Outside

Simple. Go outside for at least 10-15 minutes a day! It’s a great way to get your vitamin D in, especially if you live in an area where your winters are longer than summers.

Complete 1 Big Task A Week

One big task a week can be anything from laundry to cleaning the bathrooms, decluttering, cleaning the outside of your home, organizing certain areas, you name it. There is a never-ending list of things you can do when it comes to cleaning and organizing your home.

Healthy Habits for Your Health: Drink Your Water

The basics. Drink your water. I’m sure you know this by now, but you can often go all day without drinking water, which can negatively impact your life. Drinking enough water prevents you from experiencing constipation, dry skin, fatigue, mental fog, moodiness, headaches, overeating, etc. If you are already experiencing some of these symptoms, I recommend upping your water intake to see if that will help!

Visit Your Family or Friends.

While, of course, you should be mindful not to over welcome your stay, it’s still essential to get out and socialize with people in person. For one, being indoors all the time can hinder your social skills. Humans have a deep desire to have or belong to a community. A community that’s not always online.

It’s often not sought out as much as it used to be for one living in a western society where individualism is highly esteemed while collectivism is viewed as weak… might discourage many people from seeking a community. But having a community or a collectivist mindset or even just one person to be able to hang out with and do things with will bring social gratification!

Conclusion: Healthy Habits to Practice Daily

Implementing healthy habits into your daily routine will help you flourish as a Homemaker. If you don’t know where to start or how to start creating habits read the book Atomic Habits. This book I 100% guarantee will help you create life-lasting habits. Of course, this blog post does not cover the many healthy habits a homemaker should develop, but it’s habits I wish I would’ve implemented sooner that have helped me tremendously!
